Abstract

All films inevitably use abusive language as a representation of modern society. The research in question defines some functions of abusive language use (emotional state, social status, pathological swearing etc.) and its types (naming parts of human body, the coitus process, etc.). The problems of swear words translation lie in the fact that despite the variety of the Russian abusive vocabulary in comparison with the English one, the translation of such English words into Russian is rather complicated (as TV series are usually watched by children). The article presents some examples of the most commonly used English swear words from two TV series of different genres. The author provides them with the variants of their possible translation.

Key words
