This article is devoted to the subject area of social work, which is one of the constituent elements of the educational programme profile "Bachelor for Social Work", developed in the framework of the joint project of the European programme Tempus "Tuning Russia". The authors analyze the key characteristics of the subject area. The authors define this area's role in the development of the academic and professional components of the educational programme profile. The article reveals the links of the subject area with the graduates' training and employment.
