The article deals with some aspects connected with translation of texts containing so called “localisms”. It is stated that the given term doesn’t have a single interpretation in translation theory which is sometimes doubtful about the necessity of its usage. An attempt is made to prove the usage of this term, to disclose its meaning concerning definite class of realia, found in the works of Indian authors, as well as to find out the peculiarities of their representation in the translating text.
