Abstract |
||
This article introduces the domestic reader to one of the figures of Scandinavian folklore – huldra. The analysis of folklore sources revealed a number of huldra’s characteristic features: female hypostasis (appears either as a beautiful girl or an old woman), beauty, the presence of a tail, usually has a particular interest to mortal men. Huldra appears as an independent character or in a team, forming a semantic group «huldru / hulda folk» – «hidden people». Huldra can be compared to the German Frau Holda – seasonal deity of fertility, as well as with Slavic mermaid. |
