Abstract

This article is devoted to the univerbation, a highly productive word-formation process of the modern Russian speech. The author singles out the thematic groups of univerbs, notes the changes in their structure compared with the previous periods of the language development (e.g., the emergence of the thematic group “Internet”), as well as the emergence of the univerbs with the foreign-language stems. The question of the necessity to describe the thematic spheres of univerbs within a semantic field is also raised in the article. The functioning of univerbs in many cases depends on social, historical and cultural factors.

Key words

word-formation compression, univerbation, thematic group, semantic field
