The paper presents the comparative analysis of two translations of fragments from the Holy Writ (“Proverbs of Solomon”) into the English language. There is a gap of practically three centuries between King James Bible and Good News Bible; moreover, the translators had absolutely different purposes. As a result a lot of divergences of different types can be discovered while comparing the translation of the same part. All types of divergences and thoughts about their origin are provided in the paper. Divergences of stylistic characteristics of the texts are more frequent which can be explained by the specific features of this certain fragment.
