Abstract

The article deals with the phenomenon of media convergence. This multidimensional process takes place on several levels: technological, organizational, social, generic and many others. However, in this study, the authors are interested in media convergence in terms of merging genres as new forms of communication within the digital space. One such hybrid form is the political blog. In this paper the authors describe the generic status of the political blog using a speech genre model and give examples of linguistic manifestations of convergence in reference to English texts. The analysis showed that the political blog is a hybrid genre, resulting from a merging of analytical journalistic and online genres, but having its own specific features as an independent genre form.
