The article analyzes vocabulary expansion processes in the Russian language and problems of capturing neologisms in dictionaries. Main focus is on new technologies for analyzing activity levels of word-usage, its first definition and definition forms (the Internet resources “Word of the Year”, “Dictionary of the Year”. “Change Dictionary”, etc). High usage frequency in media supports actualization of certain words and expressions. In the end of 2016 – beginning of 2017 “current moment” words became such words as Trump, trumpism, trumpocalypse, etc, this was a result of wide media coverage of the US Election.
